Cluj / studio

Estudio was formed in 2007, bringing together two young architects from Cluj, Eleonora Dulău and Octavian Ciotlăuș.

The studio's creative efforts have materialized in several projects. Some of these have been well appreciated, having been published in specialized magazines and taken part in established competitions. Expressions of the individual living program, these projects reflect the principles and concepts that animate the work of the workshop. Flexibility, as a principle shaping space, is at the center of the aesthetic research in a minimalist register. The deepening of the specific demands of the residential program leads to a selective, elitist alignment with current trends. Careful and sensitive integration into the act of architectural conception of the territories close to it - landscape architecture and interior design - define the matrix of the architectural object as a total product, sustained down to the last detail. Last, but not least, the approach and implementation of innovative and efficient technical and constructive solutions are a continuous preoccupation and give the basis of the studio's activity. In parallel with the concrete design directions, Estudio participates in local and international competitions of ideas, diverse in theme, context and degree of complexity: multifunctional or specialized public buildings, restorations and rehabilitations, temporary or permanent urban interventions.

Architecture is sometimes permeated by a subtle wave that miraculously transforms simple, known things into moments of grace. One of the names of this genius could be "estudio". Constructive rigor transcends into transparency. The fluid elegance of architectural space overflows into gardens, generating total mineral/vegetable compositions. Minimalism becomes breath and texture.

House B

Completed in 2010, "house B" is located in the protected area of architectural and historical values of Cluj. Located in a hilly area near the historic center of the city, with an exceptional panoramic exposure, "house B" presents a nuanced and vigorous volumetric impact, marked by glazing, shadows and textures. The initial theme was the redevelopment and extension of an existing building, in keeping with the demands of contemporary living. In a full compositional unity, the architectural object expresses the stages of evolution and integrates into the morphological coordinates of the area. The functional areas of the house are defined in relation to the garden and the landscape. The living room, distributed on the ground floor, visually integrates the garden. The large windows in the living area and the openings to the outside, adapted to simple and efficient functional relationships, create spaces in which daylight takes on a scenographic value. The upstairs nocturnal area, opaque towards the street, is exclusively for the garden. The upper space, marked in its volume by the warm register of wood, dedicated to relaxation/leisure/SPA, enjoys the view, is an "observatory" on the city. The configuration of the sloping terrain has naturally led to the creation of successive terraces, embellished with ornamental plants. Created by the very conformation of the land, the terraces organize the entire garden space as a reverberation of the internal architectural composition.

House M

Situated in a foothill area with wide openings to the Gilăului Mountains and Mount Mare, house M proposes a bipolar composition: a transparent area with large windows, adapted for daytime functions, with a wide view of the natural environment and another area for night functions, with an intimate, opaque character. Adapted to the configuration of the land and the slope that slopes down to the west, the M house offers an efficient living solution tailored to the needs of a dynamic family. The finishes and materials used are somewhat specific to the function of a vacation home, with wood and stone co-existing in a balanced manner with glass and metal. The wide terraces, the wide external awning, the generous circulation, the minimal furnishings are all part of an architectural language that calls for living in harmony with the outside environment, a privileged one in this case.
