Moldova / Art, Media and Design Center - Iasi

stud.-arh. Radu-Ștefan Pintilie | tutor: prof. univ. dr. arh. Virgiliu Onofrei

The aim of this project is to create from an urban and architectural point of view a cultural pole and center of creative industries in Iași.

The site is located near the central area and can become an interactive place where art, media art, architecture and, basically, the creative industries would be activated by students, artists and all those who need such a place to participate in the phenomenon of fusion of the arts, to learn and, at the same time, to interact in a dynamic and creative way.

This center also responds to the need for exhibition spaces, performance halls and for art, film, theater festivals in Iasi (Periferic, Zoom ArtFusion Fest, EuroArt. IIFF etc.).

The Art, Media and Design Center has three entrances with their corresponding spaces. The main access is from a small square connected to Păcurari Street. From the reception area there is a connection to the reading room, the exhibition space and a room for presentations, conferences, etc. Also at this level (elevation ±0,00) is the terrace, a continuation of the path from the square.

The second access is at elevation -5,00, also from the square in connection with Păcurari Street. At this level there are spaces for creative activities (rehearsal rooms, workshops), as well as an amphitheater covering the performance hall. This amphitheater runs up to the -17,00 elevation, where we find, oriented towards Flower Street, the third relationship with the site, at ground level.

The amphitheater is a multi-purpose space dedicated to interaction and information, and from here you can access the intermediate level (-11,00) where there are audition spaces, art and rehearsal rooms. From this amphitheater you can also access the concert hall entrances. At this level there are also two media rooms and a café flanking the concert hall.

On the top level, at -21.50, are the technical areas and the parking lot. The parking lot can also be accessed at ±0.00 from Păcurari Street.

The terraces and the open-air amphitheater on the upper levels organically extend the spaciousness and functionality of the interior. Continuity, openness and the transparency/opaqueness contrast are the main attributes to which the spatial composition and the architectural-volumetric image were subordinated.

Conceived as a system of connection between two urban elevations of a strongly uneven terrain, the architecture of the proposed endowment interprets the characteristics of the site through the scale relationships with the existing buildings on Păcurari Street, by the inscription in the slope of the natural terrain and by the panoramic opening towards the hilly horizons from the south.
