GARA Filaret - atelier Dorin ȘTEFAN
In October 1869, the first steam locomotive triumphantly entered Filaret Railway Station, heralding a new era in the existence of the city and the country. Not so long before, on the promontory of the cornice leading towards the future Carol Park, there were vineyards. In fact, rich vine plantations were scattered all around the area surrounding the hearth of the city - at that time still a large village. In the meantime, the city has grown to two million inhabitants, and this development has also changed the face of the place. Today, Filaret railway station has long been a former railway station, and the whole area is being resettled. But how to redevelop it? This was the question with which we started, in spring 2012, with the 5th year students of the University of Architecture and Urbanism "Ion Mincu" in Bucharest, the urban and architectural approach. It wasn't long before we came to the conclusion that we could only work in total openness: the site lends itself from a replanting with vines to a large-scale vertical development, passing of course through middle ground variants. In the pages of Arhitectura magazine, we present some of the possible answers.
