Critical discourses. Creative Camp -
Brăduleț, July 27 - August 4, 2019

Project organized by Arhitext Design Foundation in partnership with the Territorial Branch of OAR Argeș, National University of Arts of Bucharest - UNARTE, National University of Music Bucharest - UNMB, Polytechnic University of Timișoara - UPT, Technical University of Cluj-Napoca - UTCN, Technical University "Gheorghe Asachi" of Iași - UTI, National School of Political and Administrative Studies - SNSPA, University of Architecture and Urbanism "Ion Mincu", Project co-financed by the Administration of the National Cultural Fund.
ABOUT THE THEME
The creative camp "The Prodigal Son's Brother" is dedicated to the unblocking/re-discovery of the meaning and role of the written text, of the imaginary generated by it, through the dialog between arts, social and political sciences, in and through their theoretical and critical approaches.
The title of the project is a paraphrase of the biblical allegory "The Return of the Prodigal Son" and is used not only as a communication medium, easily understood by the general public, but also as a challenge, an incitement to meditation and creative thinking by shifting the attention from the prodigal brother to the prodigal (some would call him conservative, grumbling and critical, even worse, obsolete or retrograde). And this is because the fable, even in recent (re)interpretations, whether literary or moral, has the figure of the prodigal son as its main character. We believe that shifting the focus to the prodigal son's brother will open up new perspectives on some issues by raising necessary questions about the less explored reality. We will also be able to provide some answers that are not often available to us or are usually considered inconvenient.
And since our concern is to promote written culture, and especially that related to architecture, the visual and performing arts, we can put forward a few scenarios in rereading this fable:
- the two sons (or the two daughters) represent two ways of thinking and living: the traditionalist/conservative and the modernist/progressive/globalist, etc.
- the prodigal brother (or sister) does not return, and his brother also leaves;
- the heritage in question is the written cultural heritage, namely architectural, visual, etc.
- Equally interesting is the position of the father (or mother) in relation to the two sons (or daughters);
- who are the descendants of the prodigal son, but those of his brother.
WHAT WE OFFER
The program of the Camp includes lectures and discussions with special guests, documentary film evenings, visits to architectural and natural monuments, as well as working sessions for participants.
The organizers provide accommodation in a peasant household in Brăduleț, where the working sessions of the Camp will also take place. The household is equipped with toilet, shower, cold and hot water, a minimally equipped kitchen, dining room, garden and orchard. Lunch can be served for a fee at the neighboring guesthouse.
More details will be given on the day of the briefing that we organize before leaving for the Camp, or by e-mail at arhitext@gmail.com and by phone 031.104.11.78.
