Benedetta Tagliabue invites you to assist to her confe-rence on the 16th of May 10.00h where she will present the recent projects of Miralles Taglia-bue EMBT at the ROCAD 2013 International Convention of Architecture and Design where she is one of the keynote speakers.

Benedetta Tagliabue is an architect.

She was born in Milan and graduated from the University of Venice in 1989. In 1991 she joined Enric Miralles’ architectural studio in Barcelona where she eventually became a partner, founding the studio Miralles Tagliabue EMBT.

During their partnership Enric and Benedetta started projects like the New Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh, the Utrecht City Hall in Holland, the Market and neighbourhood of Santa Caterina, their own house in the old city in Barcelona and so on.

After the premature death of her husband and partner Enric Miralles in 2000, Benedetta continued leading their office Miralles Tagliabue EMBT as a sole partner, finishing the more than ten uncompleted works that Enric had left and starting many new ones.

Miralles Tagliabue EMBT has offices in Barcelona and Shanghai today, and is operating all over the world with a number of new projects in Europe, China, Taiwan...

Benedetta’s work includes a number of high profile buildings completed in Spain and abroad, such as: the Market and neighbourhood of Santa Caterina, (1996-2005), the Diagonal Mar Park (1997-2002), and the Head Office of Gas Natural (1999-2006) in Barcelona; the new University Campus in Vigo; as well as projects across Europe and Asia: including the New Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh (1998-2004); the School of Music (1997-2000) and public spaces `Hafencity´ in Hamburg (2002-2013); the City Hall in Utrecht (1996-2000); the Spanish Pavilion for Expo Shanghai 2010; the garden in Xian in 2011 and so on.

Among the most recently completed projects at the studio are the L’Oreal Academy in Barcelona, social housing in Barajas and Barcelona (2013), the Auditorium in Hamburg, Plaza Ricard Vinyes in Lleida (2010), Camper stores in Sevilla, Barcelona and Washington, as well as the Italian Pavilion at the Venice Art Biennale in 2011.

Benedetta Tagliabue has been guest professor at the Graduate School of Design Harvard University in 2012 (Dunlop chair), at Columbia University in New York in 2010 and in ETSAB Barcelona (2000-2009), she is frequently lecturer, juror and critic in many architectural forums all over the world (MIT, GSD, AA, Berkeley, CCA, la Biennale Venezia etc) and participates in media debates through radio, television and magazines.

Her work received the RIBA Stirling Prize in 2005, the National Spanish Prize in 2006, the Catalan National prize in 2002, City of Barcelona prize in 2005 and 2009, FAD prizes in 2000, 2003 and 2007…

Benedetta Tagliabue received the RIBA International Fellowships for her particular contribution as a non-UK architect to British architecture in 2009 and an Honorary Degree, Doctor of Arts, from Napier University in 2005.

In 2011, she opened the Enric Miralles Foundation, and she is currently directing it with the aim of promoting a more experimental architecture following the spirit of her late husband and partner Enric Miralles.
