Deutsche Bank is presenting Victor Man to the public as the “Artist of the Year” 2014. The Romanian artist follows Wangechi Mutu (Kenya), Yto Barrada (France/Morroco), Roman Ondák (Slovakia), and Imran Qureshi (Pakistan).

Stefan Krause, as member of the Management Board of Deutsche Bank also responsible for the bank’s worldwide art activities, said in Berlin: “With Victor Man, we are honoring one of the most exciting protagonists of the contemporary art scene. While he addresses themes and techniques from art history, he is very contemporary and visionary at the same time.”

Victor Man, born in 1974 in Cluj, Romania, first garnered international acclaim with his contribution to the Venice Biennale in 2007. Recently his seemingly mystical works were on view in the Villa Medici in Rome and Galerie Neu in Berlin.

He was selected as Artist of the Year based on the recommendation of the Deutsche Bank Global Art Advisory Council, a committee consisting of four internationally renowned curators: Okwui Enwezor, Hou Hanru, Udo Kittelmann, and Victoria Noorthoorn.

The Deutsche Bank KunstHalle is showing works by the artist from March 20 to June 1, 2014 in a solo exhibition.
