| The starting point of this project consists of a series of objects found in the "trinity" formed by Belgrade, Brighton and Bucharest. By tracing in time and tracing in space the path of the three objects, followed by analyzing them, they are transformed from static entities into abstract dynamic processes. As the symbolic nature of each object is extracted, a certain urban hierarchy develops, consequently, the symbolic and the material overlap in creating an architectural language that is both local and global. The result is a new, hybrid city, static and dynamic at the same time. It consists of a fixed center and migrating islands. We have imagined a network of such poles spread over the entire flooded surface of the future world, poles connected by the paths of migratory islands, like the process of pollination. In Pol[i]nation, constituent parts of the city connect to the center, fragment and migrate. Water levels rise or fall, the transformation of the ecosystem decides the evolution of the city. Dynamism is both horizontal and vertical. The city breathes - socially, politically and economically. Regardless of political ideologies, the city is local, global and sustainable. The magnetic force of the center provides unity to the city, thus keeping it local and providing opportunity for global exchange through fragmentation. This 'plug-in' system makes the city of the future a true polyport. |
| The starting point for this journey begins with a series of found objects from a "thirtieth" of destinations: Belgrade + Brighton + Bucharest. Through tracking, tracing and dissecting these objects, they move from the static to abstract dynamisms of time and space. As the symbolic nature of each object is extracted an urban hierarchy develops; consequently the symbolic and physical combine to create an architectural language that is both local and global. It results a new, hybrid city, static and dynamic at the same time. It is formed of a fixed core and movable islands. We imagined a net of cores all around the flooded surface of the world, connected through the movement of the islands, just like the pollination process. In Pol[i]nation, constituent parts of the city plug in, fragment and migrate. The water rises and falls, ecology determines how the city evolves. This dynamism is horizontal and vertical. The city breathes - socially, politically and economically. No matter of the political ideologies, the city is local, global and self-sustaining. The magnetic strength of the motherboard gives the city unity, thus preserves the local, yet allows opportunity for the global through fragmentation. This plugin system makes it a true polyport. |
