Architects on the radio
Browsing through the volumes of Romanian radio bibliography1, a series of radio broadcasts2 with architects such as: G. M. Cantacuzino, Henrietta Delavrancea, Octav Doicescu, Duiliu Marcu, Max M. Popovici, Algi van Saanen, Petre Antonescu, Ion D. Enescu, Grigore Ionescu, between 1930-1940. Invited to speak on the programs "Radio University" and "Evening Program", they tackled topics such as: King Carol II style, Romania's national pavilion at the New York Exhibition, modern urbanism, the city of the future, modernism in Romanian architecture, traditionalism and modernism, the block-house, the modern house, architecture and comfort, the Romanian dwelling, the art of furnishing, the healthy dwelling, lighting and heating, light in architecture - hygiene, the autonomous house of the constructions and the problem of popular housing, new aspects of the housing problem, etc.
The extent of the role of these architects in the epoch, the diversity of their constructions, their influence on the development and evolution of architecture, by modeling the urban setting, in an attempt to apply the new principles of architecture, are just some of the aspects that justify the presentation of these documents.
The archive of the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Society preserves exclusively the written content of radio broadcasts from the inter-war period, most of which is unpublished3, as no audio recordings have been preserved, only the manuscripts of the broadcasts and, unfortunately, not all of them.
The magazine ARHITECTURA in partnership with the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Society considers that the publication of the manuscripts of the interwar period broadcasts in which well-known architects of the time were invited to talk about architecture is an important step, and that is why we propose ARHITECȚI LA RADIO.
