The most important feature of the project is the proposal of the exterior spaces of the enclosure and the glass windows on the semi-transparent polycarbonate facade that establish a relationship with the exterior public space. In an effort by the local authorities, the city of Louisville is attempting to reclaim Louisville's public-urban space by making 4th Street a pedestrian-friendly area. At one of its ends, the project continues this plan by opening up the ground floor of the building and arranging it like a sunken plaza, protected by perimeter boulevards. The interior continues the idea through the circulation system, organized on generous central ramps and the roof terrace arranged as a large garden.
Flexibility is another generative approach of the project, the space leaving multiple possibilities of organization, while at the same time paying attention to the museum's way of functioning. Given the scale, the project focuses on creating a strong image in the given context and a functioning system, rather than generating an architectural object.
The detailing complements the project, providing a setting in which various events organized within the institution can take place.
I appreciate the way in which the project was finalized, to the extent that it constituted at the pre-diploma stage also the solution for an international architectural competition, appreciated by the competition jury. Since this phase the project has evolved and has been continuously completed.
