Alejandro Aravena announces the theme of the 15th edition of the Architecture Biennale 2016: 'Reporting from the Front'
Alejandro Aravena, the appointed Artistic Director of the Venice Biennale, has announced the theme of the 15th edition of the 2016 Architecture Biennale entitled "Reporting from the Front".
The title of the upcoming international exhibition "Reporting from the Front" represents the issues that architecture is struggling with in every country, the success stories worth remembering and the positive examples. The exhibition aims to show to as diverse an audience as possible what it means to continue to improve the quality of life in precarious, limiting conditions. Each country is invited to share with the rest of the world its architectural struggle:
"There are many battles to be won and many boundaries that need to be expanded in order to improve the quality of buildings and thus the quality of people's lives. There are more and more people in the world looking for a decent place to live, and the conditions to achieve this are getting tougher every day. Any attempt to overcome trade issues is always strongly resisted by the inertia of reality, and any effort directed towards resolving these significant issues is met by the growing complexity of the world.
However, in contrast to warlike confrontations in which no one wins and which are shrouded in an atmosphere of defeat, on the buildings front there is an air of vitality because architecture is about looking at reality constructively," says Alejandro Aravena, Artistic Director of the Biennale 2016.
