Spa center in Jigodin-Băi, jud. Harghita

This project combines two branches of tourism: spa tourism and eco-tourism, as the chosen site is located near the Csihanyos Nature Reserve.

The complex consists of two main parts: one is the continuation of the hill, and the other marks the main functions: wellness, conference rooms, restaurant and accommodation rooms.

The volume of the building takes into account the location on the edge of the Csihanyos Nature Reserve, therefore it is important to integrate it into the natural landscape (landforms, vegetation, sunshine, etc.), being in a rural area it also relates to the architecture of that mountainous area (steep sloping roofs).

The proposed building is located on the south-west side, where the land begins to rise. The main body will be an extension of the hillside, which "flows" towards the street. From this volume rise others that mark the main functions of the complex: wellness, restaurant, conference rooms and accommodation. These volumes have shapes reminiscent of the roofs of mountain village houses or the contours of mountains. At the same time, the glazed planes of these elevated volumes help to brighten the rooms, facing south.

Diploma project Spa center in Jigodin-Băi, jud. Harghita, presented by Noémi Butoi, was a happy and inspiring conclusion of years of study. Truly, tenacity, common sense and creativity were found in the diploma project solution. One of the definitions says that: "Architecture is spatial organization in its optimal variant"; I believe that Noémi Butoi's diploma thesis is in its optimal variant.
