RIBA Polyport Workshop Belgrade 2013

The Riba Polyport International Workshop took place in February, in Belgrade, has joined a hand full of student architects form three countries: Romania, Great Britain and Serbia. The projects purpose was that of creating an ideal imaginary city on water. The challenge was that the cities design to provide, functionally speaking, a new way of living for the modern men.As one of the principles of architecture aims to build around man and his needs, the project started with the identification of an object in each homeland resulted from the exchange between countries and which was at one time brought on water. The collection of objects, even if unrelated to the participants homeland, have traveled on water and reached their end of the journey in one of the country's museums. This led to the first stage representing the base of the future city, the birth of different algorithms for the development of the future settlement.
The RIBA Polyport international workshop, held in February in Belgrade, brought together student architects from three countries - Romania, the UK and Serbia - on the theme of the ideal city built on water, in a cataclysmic scenario where the world would be flooded. The challenge was to build a city that would be able, functionally speaking, to provide a comfortable living for its inhabitants. As one of the principles of architecture that aims to build around people and their needs, the theme started with the identification of an object in each participant's country of origin that had, at some point, been brought on water and was the result of an exchange (either given or obtained through a confrontation). This collection of objects unrelated to the participants' countries of origin, but which traveled on the water and eventually ended up in one of the country's museums, determined the first blueprint of the future city - a random one, but one that would form, through an algorithm created by each participating team, the basis of the future settlement.
