Downshifting Romanian Way - Stanciova
text: Irina, Gab, Iris and others
In a village of 350 inhabitants in western Romania, at the foot of the Lipova hills, we found our home.
The story began in 1999, with the Ecotopia camp, which was the impetus to set up the Ecotopia Romania Association, which is still in operation today. Now, in addition to the get-beget villagers, there are also a few families of city-dwellers who live here, focused on downshifting, permaculture and sustainability.
There are also volunteers through the HelpX and WWOOF networks and friends from Timișoara and other parts of the world.
There is an "Ecotopia association house", a collaborative housing project, complete with garden, waiting for more residents. What are we doing here? In short: we live. We like to think we live nicely, with care for the earth and people, sharing the surplus. Some of us make soap, some of us make jams, syrups, canned vegetables from the fruits of the gardens and by picking plants from the neighborhood. These are available to those who want to support the community and the local economy.
What we learn we pass on through workshops, pancakes and stories told in the shed, in the garden, on the porch or around the fire. They are the stories of the more beautiful world the heart knows is possible.
If you would like to visit us, please let us know in advance. If you are in the area, you are welcome to come and visit for tea or at events announced on the blog.
Of course, if you want, you can also buy a house here. We would be happy to. But please don't ask us for offers. We don't like being real estate agents. If you want to buy a house, stay around for a week or two, walk around the village, talk to the locals and you're sure to find it.
