SoNoRo Conac à la française

19.04.2019

The 7th edition of SoNoRo Conac is launched within the Romania-France Season and announces a program "À la française"! From April 24 to July 11, 16 concerts will take place in historic buildings representative of the Romanian cultural heritage, many of them built in the French eclectic style of the early 20th century, a period of maximum architectural flourishing of our country.
The French influence in our culture has been very great, from art and architecture to administrative organization, but also the contribution of our country to French culture, through Romanian intellectuals and artists, has been important and we are glad that this joint season has managed to highlight so well this relationship, which has enriched both cultures. In this edition we will realize a cultural exchange with France, we will have top French artists invited to the Conac concerts, who will perform alongside Romanian and international artists, whose high level we have already accustomed the public to, says musician Răzvan Popovici, director of the SoNoRo Conac tour and of the SoNoRo Festival.
SoNoRo Conac is a project initiated by the Sonoro Association, with the support of its main partner BRD - Groupe Société Générale, with the aim of creating favorable contexts for the rescue of important monuments of Romanian heritage.
The six editions of Sonoro Conac so far have revealed Romania and its riches hidden in plain sight and unsuspected to most of us in a different way. Of all the influences that have added an extra touch of beauty to heritage buildings, those from France have perhaps brought that touch that definitively established the brilliance that history has remembered. And as music knows no borders, it will gracefully complement and lead this cultural dialog across time, as relevant in 2019 as it was a hundred years ago, says Flavia Popa, Secretary General of BRD Groupe Societe Generale.
Among the palaces, castles and mansions that will host the concerts of this year's edition, there will be established spaces such as Bran Castle, Peles Palace in Sinaia, the Royal Palace in Bucharest or lesser-known ones, Arcuș Castle and Haller Castle. There are also the fortified churches of Criț, Meșendorf and Viscri, the Neoloagă Synagogue in Oradea and the Cistercian Abbey of Cârța, as well as buildings housing public institutions such as the Craiova Art Museum, the Buzău Communal Palace, the Military Circle in Brașov and the Astra Library in Sibiu.
Under the motto"À la française", the 7th edition of SoNoro Conac kicks off on April 24 with a concert at the Craiova Art Museum, the impressive palace of the richest Romanian of the inter-war period, Jean Mihail. This marvelous example of European eclectic architecture and French academism was built by the French architect Paul Gottereau, hence the many similarities with the Cheverny Palace in the Loire Valley. The repertoire for the evening of April 24 will include works by Franz Schubert, Maurice Ravel and Jean Cras, performed by Francesco Ionașcu, violin, Răzvan Popovici, viola, and Marcin Sieniawski, cello.
On the occasion of the inclusion of this edition in the Romania - France Season 2019, the public will enjoy a repertoire represented mainly by French composers and musicians. The Romania - France Season 2019 coincides with Romania's Presidency of the Council of the European Union and includes a series of events from April 18, 2019 to July 14, 2019. On this occasion will be celebrated through concerts and events recognizing their architectural value, some of the most important heritage buildings in Romania, along with castles and mansions in France.

About SoNoRo Conac
In 2013, Sonoro Association started a new project - SoNoRo Conac - which aims, by associating music with emblematic architectural works from Romania, to suggest the need for respect, attention and support for Romania's extraordinary heritage and cultural resources.
SoNoRoRo Conac started from the idea of restoring chamber music to its original, intimate space, conducive to cultural dialog and active listening by a small audience. This project aims to raise public awareness of the plethora of rehabilitated heritage buildings - fabulous, spectacular, elegant buildings that need to be brought back into the cultural circuit.
SoNoNo Conac is a project initiated by the Sonoro Association, with the support of its main partner BRD - Groupe Société Générale and the Romanian Order of Architects.
