Registration in the international competition
LafargeHolcim Awards for Construction
is open

Bucharest, June 5, 2019 - The LafargeHolcim Awards competition aims to attract flagship projects from industry professionals and bold ideas entered in the "Next Generation" competition category, which combines sustainable construction solutions with architectural excellence. The sixth edition of the international competition will receive entries until February 25, 2020. The LafargeHolcim Awards offer prizes totaling USD 2 million and promote projects and concepts in architecture, engineering, urban planning, materials and construction technology.
The previous edition of the LafargeHolcim Awards, held in 2017 - 2018, had 8 Romanian projects at the starting line, and the project of the first independent theater built in the last 70 years in Romania, Grivița 53, received the LafargeHolcim Acknowledgement 2017 Europe award for the region of Europe.
Entries for the main competition category of the LafargeHolcim Awards include sustainable construction projects at an advanced stage of design with a high likelihood of implementation. Actual construction must not have started before January 1, 2019. The Next Generation category identifies visionary design concepts and bold ideas at a preliminary design stage, including documentation and research activities. To participate in this category, designers must be under 30 years of age. Students and young professionals are welcome to enter the main category of the LafargeHolcim Awards with ideas that have reached an advanced stage of design.
Independent juries of experts from five geographic regions of the world evaluate entries against the LafargeHolcim Foundation's overarching objectives for sustainable construction. Criteria include innovation and transferability, ethical standards and social inclusion, performance in resource utilization and environmental impact, economic viability and compatibility, and contextual and aesthetic impact. The competition promotes circular thinking, as a model for circular economy thinking and development, and the reduction of CO2 emissions in all competition disciplines. It also identifies the ideas with the greatest potential to address the current challenges of increasing urbanization and to improve quality of life.
Entering the competition is free of charge and must be done in English using an online form to provide information about the author, a summary of the project, technical details, as well as images and/or illustrations of the project. A step-by-step guide explains the application process in detail and outlines how to prepare an entry on www.lafargeholcim-awards.org
