REconstruct 1.0: Summer school at Felmer for high school students

The Renascendis Association organizes from 5-14 August 2019 the REconstruct 1.0 Summer School, in the framework of the project of the same name dedicated to high school students (15-19 years old) from Țara Făgărașului, financed by the Științescu Fund.

The summer school will take place in Felmer (commune of Șoarș, Brașov county), where, for ten days, we will relocate, rebuild and restore a traditional wooden cottage from Țara Făgărașului.

The REconstruct 1.0 project brings together notions of architecture, restoration, physics, chemistry, biology and geometry with the practice of ancient building crafts and the use of modern theologies in the documentation and restoration of historic buildings.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn and experiment with traditional crafts (masonry, carpentry and joinery), to help re-roof an old tile roof and to make plaster from yellow earth and manure, going through many of the steps that their great-great-grandparents went through when building a house.

The Renascendis Association provides meals, accommodation, tools, machinery and protective equipment for the participants.

The REconstruct 1.0 project is funded by the Community Foundation Țara Făgărașului, through the Fondo Științescu Țara Făgărașului.

The Renascendis Association is a non-governmental non-profit organization whose objectives are: to protect, preserve, restore, recover, promote and reuse the tangible and intangible, movable and immovable cultural heritage of Transylvania, to help underdeveloped rural and urban communities in the process of economic and social recovery and sustainable development, and to support young people - especially students and beginning researchers - in their professional specialization.

The Renascendis Association operates in the village of Felmer, commune of Șoarș, county of Brasov, where it has taken over the management of the fortified evangelical church, the former evangelical school building and the former evangelical parish house, in order to restore, modernize and reuse them for the benefit of the local community and for its own projects.
