Transilvania Architecture Biennale (BATRA)

15.10.2019

One hour free consultation with an architect, poetry and photography competitions for the general public at BATRA 2019

The program of the Biennale of Architecture Transylvania (BATRA) will include, also in the 2019 edition, direct meetings between architects and potential beneficiaries, whether they are clients or people curious/interested in the field. Through this project, already in its second edition (it was also held during BATRA 2017), the organizers aim to bring the public closer to architects, to what their profession means. To bring those who perhaps have never interacted with an architect, in front of one.

"We believe that architecture is a necessity and, through these meetings, the beneficiaries can become aware of the need for architectural intervention not only in commercial - private life if they can call it that (projects and design for personal homes or for residential projects undertaken by a builder/developer), but also in the life of the community, in the collective space. We envisioned these meetings as an opportunity for those interested in collaborating with an architect, as well as for young architects, who can promote themselves, their ideas and energy", says arh. Daniela Maier, BATRA 2019 curator and president of the Romanian Order of Architects - Transylvania branch (OART).

How can young architects help you?

They can give you advice, for example, for materializing ideas related to interior space, whether or not conditioned by the surface area, the budget for the interior design or the time in which you want to carry out a certain intervention. Or they can simply explain exactly what working with an architect - a subject about which there are too many myths and taboos. "It's not expensive to work with an architect. Even less to consult with one! It's more expensive to make unnecessary or downright wrong interventions and then try to fix them. Or to live with the result every day," explains Daniela Maier.

Examples of problems/ideas/questions that can be addressed at the FREE consultations offered by BATRA 2019: interior design, urban planning- planning, authorization, execution, change of use- redevelopment, reconstruction, historical monuments, land acquisition, housing, etc.

The consultation session will last a maximum of one hour for each beneficiary. Those interested are kindly requested toREGISTER, limited places available, by filling in the FORM below:

Competitions for articles, poems and photos on architectural themes

Also as part of this year's Biennale, a number of competitions - both specialized (architecture) and related - are being organized.

Thus, while the first ten categories of the "BATRA Awards 2019" Exhibition-Contest of Projects are aimed at professionals in the field, there are also three special sections dedicated to the general public:

-Awardfor the best article with and about architecture/architects

Architects and/or journalists are invited to enter or submit nominations for articles dedicated to the general public, promoting quality in architecture, surveys, reports or interviews with and about architects, administrations, communities, objective analysis of the current situation in the field of architecture, construction, urban planning and interior design.

The article should have a maximum of 5000 characters and should be sent with an English translation.

-Best Architectural Photography Award - for architects, professional and amateur photographers

Architectural photographs should be understood as photographs that: capture architecture in action, dedicated to the general public; promote quality in architecture, architects, administrations or communities that have succeeded in redefining urban or rural, public or private spaces.

-The prize for poetry with/about architecture

Architecture is everywhere, even in the most unexpected places. Poetry is a written art form that can capture the essence of spaces through words, often better than any other written art form.

We invite poems with and about spaces, architecture, and the relationship between humans and the experience of exploring these environments to submit poems to this section.

A maximum of 2500 characters should be entered. The text will be submitted in both Romanian and English.

DEADLINE for the three special sections: October 31, 2019

To enter, please fill in this FORM :
