PRESS RELEASE ON THE LAUNCH OF THE SOLUTIONS COMPETITION

CENTER FOR ART, TECHNOLOGY AND EXPERIMENT MULTIPLEXITY

TIMISOARA, 2020

The Romanian Order of Architects announces the launch of the Solutions Competition "Center for Art, Technology and Experiment - MultipleXity".

The aim of the competition is to find the best solution for the development of the land and buildings within the former industrial complex on Take Ionescu Street, owned by the Municipality of Timisoara, into a center for art, technology and experimentation, to be called MultipleXity.

MultipleXity will be a center for cultural and technological experimentation through multiple functions that will take place in the former workshops and tram depots on Take Ionescu Street 56-58 and integrating the Corneliu Miklosi Museum (Take Ionescu Boulevard 83). The role of MultipleXity is to facilitate and encourage through experimentation initiatives and projects on the borderline between technology and art. MultipleXity will provide an open and free space with accessible infrastructure for innovative projects and experiences. Here artistic, technological concepts and products will be produced through intensive collaboration.

The MultipleXity competition is promoted by the Timișoara City Hall (PMT), which is both the owner of the land and buildings that will be the subject of the future intervention, and the contracting authority that will acquire the design services for the intervention it wants to realize.

The organizer of the competition is the Romanian Order of Architects (OAR), a professional organization whose mission is to increase the quality of the architectural-urban product and to promote this service to society as an act of culture of public interest.

The awarding procedure is a single-phase solutions competition, the aim of which is to award the design contract for this objective, open in Romania, the countries of the European Union, the European Economic Area and the Swiss Confederation. The solutions competition is organized as an independent procedure in accordance with Art. 105 lit. a) of Law no. 98/2016 on public procurement, and the design services contract will subsequently be awarded to the winning competitor of the competition, following a negotiation procedure without prior publication of a tender notice.

The competition is organized in accordance with the Rules for Competitions of the International Union of Architects - UIA, the provisions of the International Recommendations for Competitions in Architecture and Town Planning adopted at the UNESCO General Conference of 1956, revised on 27 November 1978, the provisions of the Guide to Good Practice in the Organization of OAR Competitions for Solutions, published in 2018, in compliance with the provisions of the legislation in force on the award of public procurement contracts.
