UMBRELIVABLE = UMBRELLA + LIVABLE+UNBELIEVABLE
We set out to realize a utopian city whose connections are created as the water level rises in the scenario of a major flood. Thus, starting from the scheme of a spiral cut in the plane, which becomes a three-dimensional model by fixing the center on a point and lifting the extremity, we imagined this city in its two extreme hypostases: the three-dimensional city developed on the serpentine and the floating city on the water, the folded spiral. For this, we designed a macrostructure that takes the opening system of an umbrella, designed to move the spiral city vertically, keeping it out of the water. Our solution combines the use of the natural and man-made environment, being designed for high relief forms that would become the base for the proposed megastructure. Thus, two types of relationships/connections are formed: between the parts of the city due to the spiral and between the cities through the telescopic arms of the umbrella structure. |
To withstand floods and rising sea level, parts of the city are built on the hills using an umbrella-type structure between the built environment and the natural landscape. The spiral that becomes the new land of the city has floating ability so that when water level rises, the city stays afloat being pushed upwards. New connections form: 1) between different different parts of the same city because of the spiral 2) between cities through the joining umbrella structures of two adjacent cities |
