We invite the public on a tour of castles and palaces in Romania, which can always have its counterpart in one of the castles of the Loire Valley. This year, the SoNoRo Conac concerts, part of the Romania-France Season, will bring French culture closer to the Romanian audience, both through the program and the selection of venues where we will perform. At the same time, the French public is invited to discover an important part of Romanian culture, through the music of the great Romanian composers and through those buildings that wanted to celebrate the French spirit at the beginning of the 20th century, says Răzvan Popovici, director of the SoNoRo Conac tour and of the SoNoRo International Festival.

The first concert of the month takes place on May 8 and brings classical music to Buzău's Palatul Comunal, one of the city's landmark buildings, built in neo-Romanesque style and inaugurated in 1903. The next stop where chamber music will resound is on May 9 in Szentkereszthy Castle in Arcuș, which is located in one of the best preserved Transylvanian historical residential parks. The castle was built in the second half of the 19th century and combines Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Baroque styles.

The tour continues on May 10 in Covasna County in one of the best restored castles in the area, Haller Castle in Ogra. The four-centuries-old castle was once a real pearl of the princely art residences, and today it has returned to the charm of the old times. On May 11 the musical itinerary opens the gates of Apafi Castle in Dumbrăveni, built in the 16th century in Renaissance style.

In May, SoNoRo Conac "À la française" will also visit two of the most visited palaces in the country, the Peles Palace(12 May) and the Royal Palace(30 May), two buildings favored by the country's royalty. Peles Castle was the favorite summer residence of Romania's kings, while the Royal Palace hosted many important historical events during the reigns of Kings Carol I, Ferdinand, Charles II and Michael I.

The iconic Peles Palace attracts over 300,000 visitors annually with its unique Swiss chalet-like architecture and German-style exterior decoration, while the Royal Palace in Bucharest is a symbolic building for Romanian royalty and fascinates visitors with its Renaissance elements and grand halls decorated with paintings and statues.

About SoNoRo Conac

In 2013, Sonoro Association launched a new project - SoNoRo Conac - which aims, by associating music with emblematic architectural works from Romania, to suggest the need for respect, attention and support for Romania's extraordinary heritage and cultural resources.

SoNoRoRo Conac started from the idea of restoring chamber music to its original, intimate space, conducive to cultural dialog and active listening by a small audience. This project aims to raise public awareness of the plethora of rehabilitated heritage buildings - fabulous, spectacular, elegant buildings that need to be brought back into the cultural circuit.
SoNoNo Conac is a project initiated by the Sonoro Association, with the support of its main partner BRD - Groupe Société Générale and the Romanian Order of Architects.
