Tiberiu Niga

In the archives of the U.A.R. there is the registration file of Tiberiu Niga in the Union of Architects of the R.P.R., Bucharest branch, from April 19531.

Tiberiu, Caius, Mihai Niga was born in Arad, on January 12, 1906. In 1919, the Niga family moved to Bucharest, as Ioan Niga had obtained the post of architect at the General Directorate of the Romanian Railways, from where he retired in 19372.

Tiberiu Niga graduated from the School of Architecture in 1930, with diploma no. 178, and continued his studies with a scholarship for specialization in Paris (1932-1933), obtained through a competition. From the file completed in 1953 it appears that he worked from the age of 18. From 1924 to 1925 he worked as a driver for the building company 'Acțiunea Economica'; from 1926 to 1929 he was a driver for the Ministry of Finance's Directorate of Architecture; from 1928 to 1930 he was employed at the Town Hall of II Negru, then from 1930 to 1931 at the P.T.T. Credit House, but as an architect. His architectural office, located on Bd. Principele Mircea, number 8, operated between 1931-1939, between 1939-1948 preferring to work in the contractor's firm of engineer C. Nicolau.

After 1948 he was employed in different design institutes, such as: C.I.C. (1948-1949), I.P.C. (1949-1952), Proiect București (1953-1957), I.P.C.T. (1957-1959 and 1963-1970), I.S.C.A.S., (1959-1963), I.S.A.R.T. (1970-1973). Tiberiu Niga was President of the Architecture Fund and member of the Steering Committee of the Romanian Union of Architects until 1965 and then between 1971-1979.

Since 1965 he has been a professor at the Institute of Architecture "Ion Mincu", in the department of design for years IV-VI, where his assistants were the architects Aurelian Trișcu, Radu Mănăilă and Lucian Popovici 3.

In the registration file of Tiberiu Niga as an active member of the Union of Architects of the R.P.R., Bucharest branch, there are two lists in which his projects were listed. The first one is the standard form filled in by T. Niga in pen, listing the works from 1932-1953. The second typed list was attached later and refers to the period 1930-1963.

Under the heading 'professional activity', the architect added: 'preliminary and final designs for about 200 completed constructions, more than 800 studies and competitions for various works: individual dwellings, blocks of flats, office houses, various architectural works, interior decoration, industrial works, town planning studies'.
