Deadline for entries for the international LafargeHolcim Awards competition

Thesixth edition of the global sustainable design competition seeks both projects by professionals as well as bold ideas from the next generation that combine sustainable building solutions with architectural excellence. Entries close on February 25.
The latest edition aims to identify sustainable solutions in contemporary building and construction projects. The main competition category is open to architects, urban planners, engineers, project owners, builders and construction firms. Projects must be at an advanced stage of design, have a high probability of completion and construction must not have started before January 1, 2019.
Students and young professionals (age 30 and under) can submit visionary concepts and ideas to be entered in the Next Generation category of the competition. Entries can be at an early stage of design, with research and studio work also accepted.
Entry to the competition is free of charge and registration is free by completing this form in English.
"Target issues for sustainable construction
Entries are assessed against five 'target issues' for sustainable construction, which aim to clarify the principles of sustaining the human habitat for future generations. "The 'target issues' cover innovation and transferability; ethical standards and social inclusion; resource and environmental performance; economic viability and compatibility; and contextual and aesthetic impact.
Winners will be announced in the second half of 2020 at award ceremonies held for each region. They will then compete for the LafargeHolcim Global Awards in 2021, to be judged by a global jury led by Hashim Sarkis of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, and curator of this year's Venice Architecture Biennale.
The LafargeHolcim Awards competition brings to the forefront projects and concepts in architecture, engineering, urban planning, materials science, building technology and related fields. Organized by the LafargeHolcim Foundation, it is the world's leading competition in the field of sustainable design and takes place simultaneously in five geographic regions, each with its own jury of renowned independent specialists. The regional juries are headed by Jeannette Kuo from Karamuk Kuo Architects in Switzerland (for Europe), Reed Kroloff from the Illinois Institute of Technology in the USA (for North America), Loreta Castro Reguera from Taller Capital in Mexico (for Latin America), Mariam Kamara from atelier masōmī in Niger (for Central and East Africa) and Nirmal Kishnani from the National University of Singapore (for the Asia Pacific region).
