National Architecture Biennale Bucharest 2012 - calendar of events

The Bucharest 2012 NATIONAL ARCHITECTURAL BIENNALE (BNAB), formerly the Bucharest Architecture Biennale (BAB), is the most important professional event of the architects' guild organized continuously since 1994.

The Biennale had a specific concept for each edition, proposed by the curatorial team as a complex cultural program.

The enlarged territorial representation from one year to the next, as well as the anniversary character of this, the 10th edition, led the Senate of the Romanian Union of Architects to call it the "Bucharest National Architecture Biennial". Between the previous Biennial - BAB 2010 - and BNAB 2012, on February 26, 2011, the architects' guild celebrated the 120th anniversary of the founding of the Romanian Architects' Society, and on

October 15, 2012 will celebrate 120 years since the establishment of higher architectural education through the National School of Architecture. The 160th anniversary of the birth and the 100th anniversary of the death of Ion Mincu - whose name the University of Architecture and Urbanism Bucharest bears through the Mincu Year - also mark the year 2012.

1.TARGET

All professional organizations and all higher education institutions of architecture, urban planning, restoration, interior architecture, product design in Romania are expected to participate as direct partners in this Biennial.

The building of a high-performance built environment that satisfies the needs of the direct beneficiary and the community cannot be without the involvement of state institutions, central and local government, regulatory and coordinating bodies of the activity in the field. It is also desired to involve all publications on architecture, urbanism, restoration, design, art and culture, as well as radio and television companies for the mediatization of these events.

A work of architecture cannot become a reality without the input of other specialists: structural engineers, installation engineers, construction engineers, economists, suppliers of materials and services, making them potential partners.

The creative unions members of the National Association of Creative Unions are also invited to organize events related to the meeting of the arts (the art of architecture with the art of fine arts, the art of music, the art of dance, the art of theatre, the art of film, etc.).

The Biennale will focus on the heritage values of the architectural space and on the possibilities for improving the quality of life through architecture. Aware that the evolution of the built environment is directly influenced by the interaction between authorities, architects and beneficiaries, the organizers will aim to create an interactive platform for communication between these actors.
