The city - undeniable

Since 2007, half of the world's population lives in cities. The city is imposing itself on us, it has become inseparable from the human condition, it inevitably passes, it makes people talk about it and we talk about it, both the city and the people who live in it compress space and time. The city, this continual movement in which the inhabitant, before inhabiting, moves about, who is given breaks because he has no time to sit down: he eats a little, runs a lot, sleeps a little, waits a lot, and survives before living his city. [...]"

"Bucharest, from city to metropolis"

Program 2011/2012:

We asked the architects, urban planners and engineers invited to Bucharest to express their point of view on the city, the city that is being built and that exists in the metropolis.

Marc Barani, architect and urban planner, winner of the Silver Echer award, opened the cycle in December with the theme : "Urban Infrastructures".

Bruno Decaris, chief architect of Historic Monuments, professor, is renowned for his attention to the integration of contemporary architecture in the monument and its insertion into the urban space. "How to reconcile contemporary architecture and heritage conservation? The question seems obvious. And yet, if there must be a reconciliation, then there will also be antagonism."

Pablo Katz, architect and urban planner, designer, is president of the French Society of Architects (with the magazine "Le Visiteur", which will soon publish a special issue on Bucharest) "When working in neighborhoods marked by the history of the 20th century, the approach must admit the problematic of a project in progress..."

Conference- Wednesday, April 11.

Jean-Paul Robert, architect, journalist (former editor-in-chief of "L'Architecture d'aujourd'hui"), teacher and writer, is currently in charge of the "Grand Paris" project at the Jean Nouvel agency. "A project is a future. [...] To concretely, pragmatically, restore part of a dream intact."

Conference- Wednesday, May 16.

Nathan Starkman, engineer, urban planner, "Grand Prix of urbanism", first director of APUR (Atelier Parisien d'Urbanisme), today director of LMCU (urban planning agency of Lille Métropole Communauté Urbaine). "The great debates on the development of cities were already well known; what interested me was the relationship between the technical and the social, inseparable components of urban planning."

Marc Barani, architect and urban planner, winner of the "L'Équerre d'argent" prize, opened the program in December on the theme: "Urban Infrastructures".

Bruno Decaris, chief architect of the Monuments Historiques, teacher, is famous for his attention to the integration of contemporary architecture into the monument and to inscribe the latter in the urban space. "How can contemporary architecture and heritage protection be reconciled? The wording of the question seems self-evident. And yet... if there has to be conciliation, there would be antagonism".
