New York City!

A fascinating city and so alive with vastly different areas, but pulsating with the same incredible atmosphere everywhere! We discovered it step by step, every day, only to rediscover it the next day. From the hustle and bustle of crowded streets in Lower Manhattan or Midtown, to the Jay-Z beats of Harlem or Brooklyn, we explored for 3 weeks a perfect mix of cultures in a special atmosphere generated by the Winter Holidays, and in a late December and early January that was more reminiscent of spring. New York is spectacular, an infinite collage of sights and sounds that captivated me from the first moment. Arriving there for the first time, and arriving at Christmas, the atmosphere I found was all the more extraordinary: a continuous spectacle of the sounds of the crowded streets, the lights of skyscrapers piercing the sky, the colors of fabulously decorated shop windows, the smells of chestnuts and roasted hazelnuts - a spectacle in which architecture is only a backdrop, or a pretext. New York is simultaneously a huge museum and a huge shopping mall. Crossing a bridge or just crossing a street transfers you into another context, another ambience, and so on, in an absolutely natural progression, you go from Brooklyn to Manhattan, from the Financial District to China Town or Little Italy, from Soho to Noho, from Harlem to Central Park. Around every corner another of the many worlds that make up the extraordinary universe of this city. Each of these worlds comes with its own decor, its own architecture, its own particular character. And so you know you want to brunch with the hipsters in Williamsburg in Brooklyn, see the famous museums on Fifth Avenue or Bowery Street, lose yourself in the shops of Soho or Broadway Street, or spend evenings with friends in the bars of Greenwich Village or Hell's Kitchen. New York is constantly on the move, with people communicating and interacting, if only with a glance or a knowing smile. People from all over the world meet here, drawn by this impressive magnet. It was a wonderful experience to see myself and dear friends, some long moved to The Big Apple, and others from different corners of Europe, but like me, as tourists, completely overwhelmed by the magic all around. Together with them, I savored this fabulous city every day, with the joy of constantly discovering how its life unfolds without pause. Whether we were on the street or in a café, in a museum or in a shop, the pulse of the city "that never sleeps" was as intense, as captivating and as contaminating. New York is the city that made me instantly feel the desire to become "a part of it" and at the same time I knew that it, in turn, would be eternally "a part of me". New York was the hardest parting from New York, but I left with enormous energy, an intense zest for life, the feeling that anything is possible and, out of too much enthusiasm, the keys to the apartments of friends I stayed with, which I have made a point of returning to them by going back there as soon as possible, this time in the summer. |
