D Proiect
D Proiect is an architectural office in Timișoara, built on the portfolio of Bogdan Demetrescu, assistant professor, PhD in the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the Polytechnic University of Timișoara. The office is composed of Andreea Simici, architect, associate professor at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of Timișoara, Bogdan Isopescu, architect, and Paul Văleanu, architect. The team is completed by several collaborators: arh. Sergiu Sabău, landscape engineer Alex Ciobotă and eng. Cornel Farcaș, who form a task force.
The activity of the office is a working platform with mobility and availability for permanent professional evolution, at a time when architecture is redefining itself. D Project starts from a professional base strengthened by the experience of the works in the portfolio towards a vision of action in the profession, seeking the ability to adapt to new demands. Thus, the team's work is developed along three lines of action: design, education and cultural actions.
Design within the office is focused, to a large extent, on interventions on historic buildings or sites in the Romanian cultural landscape, in relation to the present social, economic and cultural context, which disadvantages Romania's built heritage. The team's work attempts to bring back into discussion, both in the guild of architects and engineers, the complexity of the mechanism and process of design on a historic built heritage. The projects realized in the last years present some attempts in the formation of a new discourse on intervention strategies on a building or a group of buildings with historical value, generating alternative methods of action on built heritage.
Restoration in Romania often means renovating facades, changing carpentry or even interventions on the roof, with visibility only from the public space, forgetting the structural consistency of the whole building. D Project proposes a complete and complex approach, through a design with collective participation, accessible even to non-specialists, which can be a chance to recover the built heritage in Romania.
The example in this direction is given by our project on the rehabilitation of some buildings in Unirii Square in Timisoara, constituted in a historic quarter, known as the Serbian Careul Sârbesc, belonging to the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Timisoara. This project demonstrates the evolution of our office, which started, more than ten years ago, with a basement rehabilitation proposal, focused on furnishing and furniture design, followed in recent years by a strategic and pragmatic approach, supporting the implementation stages of projects. Thus, the whole team seeks to complement the knowledge and skills of an architectural office by taking an interest in the implementation phases of the project, such as the follow-up of the execution and the monitoring of the behavior of the construction over time.
The education component is very important in the organization of the office, which is involved in the Faculty of Architecture in Timisoara through the work of Bogdan Demetrescu and Andreei Simici, teachers. The internship programs organized every year by D Proiect in collaboration with the faculty reinforce the conviction that a school of architecture must be complemented by the presence of independent offices, making use of their working and organizational platform. Actions in recent years, together with partners such as the Astra Museum in Sibiu or the Dala Foundation, have generated events to educate students, trainee architects or even team members on how an architecture office can provide an independent and much more mobile platform in organization.
PRAGMA is a project involving the architectural office D Proiect in a cultural consortium initiated and located in Timișoara, bringing together entrepreneurs from the creative and cultural sector, who aspire to identify their own cultural space funded, managed and curated by the consortium members. It consists of entrepreneurs active in the creative and cultural industries, specialized in design, architecture, book publishing, graphic and contemporary art production at the intersection with digital technologies, music and video production, photography. The consortium forms the institutional umbrella under which these efforts come together and coagulate into a synergetic, interdisciplinary, sustainable, non-conjunct, sustainable, non-conjunctural, medium and long-term goals. Founding members: architecture office D PROIECT, Triade Foundation, graphic design studio SYNOPSIS, Club D'arc. Started in 2013, this cultural project has so far organized several events such as URBAL (2014), Winter Garden (2014) and AVPG-Unirii 5 (2015).
D Project wants to be part of an action group through the dynamics of its work platform and the capacity of its team, reinforced by a portfolio of works whose national or international recognition compels it to a growing architecture.
