Capitalization of forgotten spaces. Rebirth of the fluidity of spaces

The theme for the 2010-2011 Robert Auzelle Seminar is the "importance of empty space in urban art", evoked by Robert Auzelle1: "Empty space, whether free or planted, is the essence of urban art - the architecture of the city being but one of the many enclosures that delimit space". Thus, to improve the framework of our urban life, Robert Auzelle invites us to take part in Gaston Bachelard's quest2, "we want to examine, in fact, very simple images, the images of a happy space...".

As a response to the general problem of the lack of green and recreational spaces in Bucharest, the project proposes the revalorization of empty spaces adjacent to the universities along the Dâmbovița river, which are currently isolated: the university centers, the green spaces adjacent to them and the cultural areas of interest.

Thus, the project "Reviving the Fluidity of Spaces" identifies the empty areas along the Dâmbovi river and valorizes them by creating links and integrating them into a system that forms a cultural, social and biodiversity axis of the city.

The development of the proposal was based on two arguments: capitalizing on the quality of the Dâmbovița river to become an axis of coherence in the city and on the potential represented by the flow of students frequenting the area.

In a first phase, the study showed that along the Dâmbovița River are concentrated most of the university centers, with a total of 150,000 students using this space. Thus, the target user to whom the proposal is addressed is mainly the student, who is the one willing to move on foot by bicycle from one point of interest to another. (...)
