Archaeological excavation - a tool for continuity across apparent ruptures

The international conference "Designing the Archaeology", organized by prof. dr. dr. arh. Hanna Derer, took place on May 23, 2011, in the Sala Frescelor of the University of Architecture and Urbanism "Ion Mincu" and included lectures by Romanian architects and representatives of the Accademia Adrianea di Architettura e Archeologia Onlus (prof. dr. arh. Romolo Martemucci - president - and prof. dr. dr. arh. Pier Federico Caliari - Director of Studies) finalizing with the presentation of the 2011 edition of the international student competition "Premio Piranesi-Prix de Rome"(www.premiopiranesi.net; www.accademiaadrianea.net).

The present article refers to the above-mentioned conference, highlighting the importance of archaeology in reconstructing local history in favor of restoring a Romanian cultural base, especially in the context of the repeated and striking political, social and historical ruptures experienced in recent decades.

Archeological Digging as an Instrument of Continuity over Apparent Ruptures

The international conference "Designing the Archaeology", in the organization of which Professor architect Hanna Derer, PhD also participated, was held on May 23rd, 2011, in the Fresco Room of the "Ion Mincu" Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism and consisted of several lectures delivered by Romanian architects, as well as by representatives of the Accademia Adrianea di Architettura e Archeologia Onlus (Professor architect Romolo Martemucci, PhD - president - and Professor architect Pier Federico Caliari, PhD - director of studies), and ended with the presentation of the 2011 edition of the international contest for students "Premio Piranesi-Prix de Rome"(www.premiopiranesi.net; www.accademiaadrianea.net).

This article covers the above mentioned conference, emphasizing the important part played by archaeology in the reconstruction of local history as a step towards the restoration of a Romanian cultural basis, especially in the context of the repeated and vigorous political, social and historical ruptures that have taken place during the last decades.
