I have „conquered” the first items of my art collection when I was twenty years old, in a seedy old bookshop that has survived the interwar period, located in the historical center of Bucharest. There, on Franceză Street, I discovered some old newspapers, books and photos, left in that place many years ago by an old lady who worked in the 20’s in a store called Vulturul de mare cu peștele în gheare [The sea eagle with the fish in its claws]. Suddenly, all these items started to blossom in my eyes: photos of Iancu and his friends, the newspaper Contimporanul and Cuvântul Liber with drawings and engravings by Marcel Iancu and other things related to his work from the Romanian avant-garde period.
