Historical Monuments Directorate as a national school of restoration between 1952-1977

The field of restoration started early in Romania, compared to other Western European countries, especially those in the region. After the Second World War and the dissolution of the Historical Monuments Commission in 1948, the activity of protecting historical monuments was resumed in 1952, when the State Committee for Architecture and Constructions - CSAC was established, which included the General Directorate of Historical Monuments, under the direction of architect Duiliu Marcu, a directorate that performed services of authorization, guidance and control.
