Transmissible architectural values in historical Maramureș (1902 - 1981)

The content of this work was realized following a contract with the County Council of Maramureș, which, confronted with a wave of new constructions in areas with a traditional identity character, wanted a study on the specificity of house construction that could become the basis for future regulations in the field of housing construction.
The intention of the Maramureș authority comes to meet the coagulation of studies that have been going on for about eight years, which the author, together with a team of assistants from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism in Cluj, has been carrying out in the discipline of Architectural Composition with the students of the 5th year, second semester.
During one semester, the students travel to the chosen localities and, based on in situ research (sketches, drawings, photographs, measurements, questionnaires), in libraries or archives, they compose a criterial analysis of the locality, the way of living and the morphology of the dwelling from a spatial point of view, based on a theme. Then, on the basis of the archetype formed, they design a new house with a recognizably Maramurean identity.
The aim of the analysis is to identify the characteristics of the region and to establish the transmissible architectural heritage values.
The book is structured in two main parts: the first part establishes the causes and identity characteristics of housing based on a criterial analysis, while the second, based on volumetric archetypes of identity houses, proposes several housing projects designed to transmit the identity values of the area, with the aim of continuing the traditional values in the context of a current architectural language.
