Competition "Rehabilitation and landscaping of the "Johannes Honterus" courtyard in Brasov

The Association "Save the Historic Centre of Brasov" in partnership with the Romanian Order of Architects and the Brasov-Covasna-Harghita Branch of the Romanian Architects' Association (OAR) organizes, from 8 September to 10 December, the solution contest "Rehabilitation and arrangement of the "Johannes Honterus" Court (Black Church Court) in Brasov".

The competition aims to promote new ideas in urban planning and to reshape the traditional typologies of urban spaces, encouraging creativity and at the same time supporting architectural research and the implementation - with sensitivity and respect for existing elements - of contemporary projects in a historical site.

It is noted that one of the new functions dominating the urban space of the "Johannes Honterus" Court is cultural tourism, both due to the value of the ensemble and, in particular, the special urban, architectural and artistic value of the Black Church. Consequently, personalized solutions are sought, compatible with the historical spirit, the spirituality of the site and contemporary functions.

The promoter of the competition is the Association "Save the Historical Center of Brasov", in partnership with the City Hall of Brasov and the Evangelical Church of Brasov (Black Church).

The competition is organized in a single phase, in Romanian and is open to architects and urban planners from Romania and the countries of the European Union, the European Economic Area and the Swiss Confederation, under conditions similar to a public procurement of design services.

All qualification documents and project documents must be written in Romanian. Qualification documents issued outside Romania shall be translated into Romanian and legalized.

First Prize - 6.000 euro

Second Prize - 2.500 euro

Third Prize - 1.500 euro

THE JURY will be composed of: seven full members (arch. David Baxter - United Kingdom, arh. Florian Stanciu, arh. Edmund Olsefszky, arh. Șerban

Sturdza, First Priest Christian Plajer - representative of the Evangelical Church C.A., Brasov, Mayor George Scripcaru, representative of the Municipality of Brasov, Alexandru Stănescu, Director of the County Direction for Culture and National Heritage - Brasov) two alternate members (arch. Ștefan Bâlici and arch. Bogdan Cristescu) and one specialized consultant (architectural restoration).

COMPETITION TIMETABLE

Competitors can register without payment, between September 8 and October 31, 2011, by filling in and sending to the competition secretariat the registration form in Annex 2 - Rules.
