Skyscraper Competition
Renowned architecture and design publication eVolo announces the launch of the 2012 edition of the Skyscraper competition, open to students, architects, engineers and designers from all over the world.
Theaim of this competition is to redefine the way we perceive skyscrapers and to initiate a new architectural discourse based on the economic, environmental, intellectual and perceptual responsibility that these buildings imply.
The competition aims primarily to answer a series of questions that are essential to the space and time in which we live: What does the skyscraper of the 21st century look like? What are the historical, social, urban and environmental responsibilities of such mega-structures?
The annual competition also aims to provide a platform for both discussion and the development and promotion of innovative concepts related to vertical density.
THE REASON for the eVolo challenge: the emergence of countless projects of poor architectural quality and lacking adequate urban planning as a direct consequence of the exponential growth of the global population and the increasing development of urban space at the expense of rural space.
ELEMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS: Entrants to the competition should consider a number of particularly important elements such as the use of cutting-edge materials and technologies, the latest aesthetic concepts and at the same time come up with revolutionary ideas on the organization of spaces, together with studies related to globalization, flexibility, adaptability and the digital revolution.
