Roșia Montană - Cultural-touristic guide

The guide was conceived at the initiative of the Roșia Montană Cultural Foundation, a local civic organization led by the renowned historian and archaeologist Ioan Piso. The balance between scientific and mass dissemination coordinates manages to cover an acute need for information to promote cultural tourism. Historians, archaeologists, architects, geologists, geologists, ethnographers, actors and kings and locals collaborated in the realization of the guide. The guide is divided into 9 chapters: Overview, History, Architecture, Ethnography and Folklore, Film and Literature, Tourist Routes, Accommodation, Restaurants and Access Routes.

"The virtues and personalities of Roșiei Montane derive from its almost unique destiny. The settlement possesses a bimillenary tradition, and its astonishing galleries, preserved in time, speak of the Dacian-Roman, medieval and modern eras. But Roșia Montană has a natural beauty and a living tradition that dwells both in the harmony of nature and in the hearts and minds of the people who live here. There are many reasons why Roșia Montană should be an example of connection, harmony, prosperity and a model of European development in the third millennium. Unfortunately, the way the area has been treated over the last forty years has seriously damaged its present and future. The Royal House of Romania, which has been a direct witness of the identity, institutional and economic-social collapses of the second half of the last century, cannot be indifferent to Roșiei Montane's future. Together with the Romanian Academy, the Orthodox and Catholic Churches and civil society, our Family will support, in every possible way, the safeguarding and flourishing of the virtues and values of Rosia Montana, as they have been carved for two thousand years." Forward to Roșia Montană. Cultural - Tourist Guide of Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Margareta of Romania.

Roșiei Montane's geographical location and relief are points of reference that give this locality its remarkable dimension. The volcanic relief, with extensive plateaus of andesitic lava, dominates the northern part, while the Cârnic and Cetate massifs dominate the southern part. Roșiei Montane's history is linked to the existence, to this day, of Roman works, both on the surface and underground, many of which are present in the form of networks of galleries and Roman settlements. Wax tablets found here form the basis for the study of Roman law. Underground gold panning, working with fire and water, and Roman galleries are all part of the rich landscape of the town's former life, all of which can still be seen today, making Ros Montana unique.

The architecture of the place shows the value and size of Roș Montane, where churches, heritage houses, the casino, schools, the town hall, the movie theater are everywhere. This architectural landscape is part of a large ensemble characteristic of the traditional mining area of Rosie Montana, where mining works, mine shafts, tailings ponds and waste dumps live side by side with the local people, porn

ind from the Văidoaia area to the Orlea area. The illustrations depict the grandeur of buildings that were once used for a completely different purpose than they are today, as time and modernization have left their mark on these architectural structures.

In terms of ethnography and folklore, the guide describes the settlements and households, costumes and customs, beliefs and the variety of traditional occupations in the Rosia Montana area. The universal value of Roșiei Montane has been portrayed both in literature and in artistic and documentary films, involving personalities from the world of film (renowned Romanian actors and directors). The historical personalities of Roșiei Montane have a place of honor, not only in the local landscape, but also in the elite of national historical personalities.
