arh. Maria Tîlvescu
She has an invitation FROM Kengo Kuma
With arh. Maria Tîlvescu I collaborated, first, on her dissertation for the 6th year. She was doing a memorial on 1989 at the Old Crematorium. One day she showed up at our department, told me she was waiting for me to finish so we could talk. Then the following dialog took place:
- Mr. Professor, do you know what it was like in 1989, how they burned the Crematorium and poured their ashes into the irrigation canal?
- Yes, Maria, of course I know.
- And what about the over 1,000 dead after 21?
- Yes, I know.
- And how are you still alive?!
To which I, naturally, was speechless for a while, then I explained how I can still live, though I don't know how convincing I was. In any case, Maria understood both the drama and the villainy of those times 30 years ago and, as proof, she has done a doctorate on memory and trauma which I can't wait to publish so that you can believe me when I tell you it is remarkable.
On this subject, the architecture of memory, Maria knows everything there is to know and, what's more, she is making her own contribution to the field: she has created a memorial in the citadel of Oradea, under the auspices of the IICCMER, which uses the established procedures of this architecture [names, light and (pen)shadow, voices underground]. And so that the realization does not go unnoticed, it also wins prizes or is nominated in international competitions. At Kaira Loro, in Senegal, where Kengo Kuma was president, it took second place: when the UAUIM awarded Kengo Kuma the title of Doctor Honoris Causa, I pointed out to him that one of his prize-winners was present, right in the Hall of Frescrescences. Kuma looked up curiously and saw Maria, who had risen to her feet and was waving her arms holding the trophy and the competition poster, which, it is understood, she had received the master's autograph on, along with an invitation to go and work on it. A ales să termine doctoratul început, dar nu știu cât va mai putea amâna o asemenea ofertă... de nerefuzat.

Maria Tîlvescu is one of the bright minds of her generation, augmenting her intelligence and professional culture with acute sensitivity. I have been honored to have witnessed her inner development so far and I trust her inner breath.
Of course, the UAUIM would do well to bring her to a professorship, if she is not to be lost...
