A few words...
It is a joy for any teacher to write a few words about an exceptional former student, a current elite professional, through his works. In architecture all the more so as the training process involves a very "particular" "magister"-student relationship. Specific in the team that the teacher forms with his students; in the direct contact and dialog, which is different from the "ex-cathedra" relationship. The path to "learning" becomes a shared one, and getting to know the former students is part of this path.
All the more so in the case of those students who have left their mark on their generation. This is the case of the architect Andrei Șerbescu - my former student - and then, for ten years, assistant at the studio that I coordinate. Andrei's path is a natural professional path, a thorough apprenticeship.
After graduating 'class valedictorian' with the Bene Merenti medal in 2002, he chose to stay on at university to continue 'learning'; and our collaboration in the workshop deepened our professional relationship. After this apprenticeship in understanding the particularities of the didactic process, in 2012, Andrei Șerbescu began to teach as a workshop leader in the first year of the Faculty of Architecture.
Knowing that in the field of architecture professional authority is acquired with effort and courage, very young, a year after graduating from the faculty, he founded together with another colleague the ADNBA Architecture Office, a studio that soon became a presence in the area of professional performance.

Popescu until 2012, and later as head of the first year workshop.

One of the main topics addressed is contemporary collective housing in Bucharest, which is also the subject of the installation Hilariopolis, which ADNBA exhibited, at the invitation of curator Alejandro Aravena, at the central exhibition of the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2016.
Atelier ADNBA has been awarded prizes in national and international competitions; nominations in outstanding competitions such as: European Prize for Contemporary Architecture Mies van der Rohe Awards and World of Architecture festival Award; BIGSEE Architecture Award Ljubliana - finalist in 2015 and 2019; Best Architectural Achievement in the Balkan Region. In the country they have won numerous awards at professional events - National Architecture Annuals and Biennale - 2014, 2017, 2018.
Noteworthy are both the continuity of the landmark works realized within ADNBA by Andrei Șerbescu and his partner, as well as their constant positioning, at the forefront of Romanian architecture and the recognition of their professional authority, in the field of collective housing in Bucharest.
The exceptional professional career of a student who was directly mentored during his formative years, his presence in the arena of defining achievements for architecture today, as in the case of Andrei Șerbescu, encompasses and represents, I like to believe, part of the effort and dedication of his teachers.
