Passive houses. Multi-Comfort Standard. NZEB
I met Sergiu Petrea some time ago, when the College of Architecture and Urbanism "Ion Mincu" was still functioning, in the framework of the didactic activity of the design. Afterwards we met again at various extracurricular events that we organized, among which I would mention the symposiums at Romexpo during the ExpoEnergiE International Fair, various conferences at UAUIM. A few years ago, as faculty advisor of the EFdeN Signature team, I asked him for his support in co-sponsoring the students participating in the Solar Decathlon Middle East university competition in Dubai, and he has consistently given us his support.
The architect Sergiu Petrea is the founder of one of the most interesting young architectural offices - TECTO Arhitectură, a fact supported not only by the variety of projects undertaken and the typologies approached, but also by their orientation towards going beyond the limits of the ordinary or conventional objectives in the local built environment. It is evident not only the concern for the quality of the architecture it proposes to be built, but also for innovation and the development of principles that strengthen sustainability-oriented architectural practice. Guided by contemporary principles, an obvious attention to efficiency and functionality, but also by the intention to captivate and inspire its users, the projects he manages within the office negotiate their status between pragmatic constructions and experimental subjects.
The evolution of architecture promoted by the office emphasizes the research character of the projects realized in other environments in which it is involved - academic, research, public activism - and which juggle the practical applicability of theoretical concepts, building arguments to demonstrate the legitimate role of sustainable materials and technologies in the local context. Each realized project becomes a motivation to carry forward the principles of coexistence and mutual support between sustainability, aesthetics and architectural substance. It is for this reason that these coordinating elements are to be found in both small and large-scale projects, whether in restrictive urban contexts or industrial sites. Consistency in a responsible approach to the environment, to the beneficiaries and, last but not least, to the profession, has led the office to sustained and increasingly visible progress, bringing a dynamic and healthy architecture to the debate, recognized by a series of national and international awards.

In a perpetual process of refinement, Sergiu Petrea's design is characterized by meticulousness and a focus on finding environmentally sensitive solutions that are architecturally, socially and symbolically coherent. The architect does not (impose) a formal style, regardless of the context, but rather the idea of responding to the site and the circumstances, while maintaining his adherence to the principles of sustainability and durability of an almost permanent gesture such as architecture. This is why the approach of TECTO Architecture is based on strategies at the overall level, easily appropriated at various scales by materializing in constructive details that enhance the nature of the site and are the subject of the team's continuous concern, from the concept phase to the follow-up of the behavior over time.
His main desire, which he consistently pursues, is for TECTO Architecture to become a clear and promising example that novelty can be charged with meaning and positive impact, both directly on the built environment and on the way local architecture is in tune with the performance required by the contemporary world.
