The Casino of yesterday and today

The reopening of the Casino on May 21, 2025, an event considered by some to be a true inauguration of the fully restored old building, has brought back into public discourse the importance of this architectural monument representative for the Romanian area and its significant role in boosting coastal tourism.

This was, in fact, its primary role as envisioned by the local authorities of the time, when they set out, over 120 years ago, to initiate the construction of a modern casino building, offering tourists the possibility to relax and spend their leisure time by the sea. Before telling the well-known story of the Communal Casino, however, it is necessary to recall, if only in passing, the memory of the other two establishments which operated between 1880 and 1910.
