The two Eforii - the beginnings of the coastal adventure

In the summer of 2019, I was finishing the Historical and Landscape Study of Eforie, together with several collaborators1. The town is a half-century administrative creation, comprising the two resorts known today as Eforie Nord and Eforie Sud. The study was one of the revelations of the last few years, as the two Eforie together make up an exemplary picture of the development of the Romanian coastline. Far from being young anymore - almost 150 years since 1878 - this coastline is being used intensively and carelessly in the face of the fantastic cultural value of the place and of our little revelations.

The two resorts appeared in succession, after the discovery of the balneal potential of the place, in the decades that followed the takeover of Dobrogea by the Romanian administration and the beginning of its territorial organization.
