Architecture

The fact that the specialized architectural education in Iasi started 50 years ago, under the direction of the architect Nicolae Porumbescu, is the ideal occasion to come - in contrast - with a current, newer vision of our faculty. Why the Faculty of Architecture "G. M. Cantacuzino" Faculty of Architecture? Because, above all, Iasi - university city, cultural capital and capital of youth - offers the chance to train new generations in a space deeply marked by art and history. The presence of roots and values to which the current generations can relate becomes symbolic and an idea from which new concepts can be reborn in a transformed manner. The past becomes the future through us, and we even have the opportunity to grow with it.
Being a student at the Faculty of Architecture in Iasi means being "a little bit of everything". It means the chance to be freed from preconceptions and incorrect assumptions about the architect's vocation in situations such as when you explain to your friends that you are both an artist and an engineer; that you do not calculate the structures of the buildings you will design, but yet you take mechanical engineering courses for almost three years. Some say that we are "kidding ourselves" when we say that we are "budding creators", but frankly, it is the nicest thing in the world, precisely because it gives the student the freedom that he or she would probably not have anywhere else. It is in this sense that the Association of Architecture Students Iasi was established - to be the environment for the development of the architecture student, beyond his "status" within the faculty. Having been part of this association for four years, I have seen how its motto, ideas worth sharing, is taking shape through the fact that ideas for cultural activities to be held in the city are always being sketched, discussed and debated.
