In 1943, I. C. Teodorescu, the founder of modern Romanian viticulture, characterized the wines of Drăgășani as some of the best in the country: 'Whoever passes by the Olt water, upstream from Drăgășani, should be devoutly awed by this great and unique temple of the country... In a wonderful and extremely attractive setting, the Drăgășanis have been present for as long as the world has known them. The delicate essence of health and joy that Drăgășani has given - in the form of a long-lasting, slightly sparkling wine with an incomparably attractive reflex - has been used to share the most luminous figures of the Romanian past: the nobility, the generals of the Roman army, Mircea the Elder, Michael the Brave... Drăgășani wine is an excellent table wine, the best in Romania - golden yellow in color, a pronounced fruity taste, a very personal bouquet".
