The main theme of the UIA Congress is

DESIGN 2050 and comprises three sub-themes:

- Environment: our planet, sustainable architecture, natural disasters, water, agriculture, cosmic environment;

- cultural change: advanced information-oriented society, urban issues, economics, transportation, education, cultural heritage;

- life: population issues, ageing society, infectious diseases, artificial life, biodiversity.

After the tragic moment in March 2011, the UIA Congress Steering Committee decided to add a sub-theme: architects acting in solidarity beyond disasters towards sustainable development.

Based on the theme of the UIA Congress, the OAR proposed the theme for the Romanian pavilion: Decalogue of Responsive and Responsible Architecture - 2050.

Despite the catastrophe that struck Japan in March 2011, the International Union of Architects decided, together with the Japanese organizers, to keep the venue and program of the 2011 UIA Congress as a sign of the solidarity of the international community of architects and of the confidence in the capacity and will of the Japanese people to overcome an overwhelming disaster.

For Bucharest 2050+, the proposed decalogue for a responsive and responsible architecture, i.e., in our vision, intelligent and sustainable, is the following:

1. holistic 2. intelligent 3. sensory 4. interactive 5. discrete

6. adaptive 7. interdependent 8. bio-mimetic

9. protective 10.temporary
"The idea of the design is an illustration of our concept ("Keep the message, Pass the frame on to a child"), using exactly what we have at our disposal - in this case, only the mandatory materials to be provided - in an attempt to achieve the proposed goal - to achieve a minimalist and interactive space without the use of additional energy and resources; minimalist and as a homage to our hosts and the complicated period they are going through; interactive for testing the ideas presented for the architecture B 2050+", reads the essay attached to the winning design.
