Bucharest Architecture Annual Bucharest 2011 - Diploma Projects Section Award: Mountain School, Transfăgărășan - arh. Ana Daniela Tanase

The site of the project is located near the Transfăgărășan road, the only road that crosses the Făgăraș Mountains, connecting the center and the south of the country. The Transfăgărășan itself is a special element in Romania's geography, allowing access to very spectacular natural areas, thus generating a built landscape that blends harmoniously with pure nature.

The diploma proposal speculates a possibility of connecting the area on the southern slope of the Făgăraș Mountains, which is under development, and the northern area, which is strongly developed for tourism. Thus the chosen site is located at the limit of accessibility in the southern area, where the area acquires a strong natural character, located at the beginning of the reserve of the Alpine Valley Moldoveanu - Capra.

The building is inscribed in the natural landscape, taking the dynamics of the place and reinterpreting it, thus the zigzag mountain zigzag becomes a generating element of the space. The boundary between the natural and the built becomes blurred, the intervention appearing as an addition to the landscape. However, a differentiation between natural and artificial can be perceived, although the same topology is used. The form appears as a displacement of the terrain, resulting in a series of fluid spaces that make it possible for the interior to communicate directly with the exterior.

The building molds itself to the topography of the site by taking up the movement of the terrain. The dynamics of the exterior are also reflected in the interior, where the spaces follow one another along a path. The perspectives on the exterior nature are not static, paintings, images captured at key points, but follow one another dynamically as the space is traversed. The proposal is not a clear demarcation of an interior space, but rather a permeable boundary, which by its configuration on the ground always makes the presence of nature felt even inside.
