Metaphors in metal

Metal sculpture camp I-VII editions

The city of Galati was one of the first towns in the country to benefit from a creative camp organized by the Union of Plastic Artists with the help of local authorities, whose aim was to enrich the artistic heritage of the city with monumental sculptures in permanent material. In 1970, stone from the Naeni and Ciuta quarries was chosen in Măgura Buzăului, ceramics in Medgidia and Sibiu, wood in Arcuș and Săliștea-Sibiului, and iron in Galati, taking advantage of the existence of the Steelworks and the Shipyard. So it was that, in the summer of 1976, on August 1, ten young sculptors, nationally renowned, arrived at the two companies. In the space of a month, with the support of highly qualified teams of workers and a technical equipment to match, they managed to ennoble this less expressive metal with astonishing plastic qualities, which displayed its beauty and aesthetic qualities, populating the Danube waterfront, a place with excellent conditions for display. It was a privilege for the city because, under normal circumstances, the purchase of modern art works would have been enormously expensive.
