Starting from the general problem facing the area, the present project aims to revitalize a site marked for centuries by the exploitation of salt.

The first status of the salt mines in Maramureș dates back to 1435, from where the salt was transported by rafts on the Tisa River to the center of Europe. In the 19th century, the mines reached their most prosperous period, with about 28 mines identified in the village of Coștiui.

In 1897, the first salt-water pool was built near the mines, and later a complex with changing rooms, showers and a casino was constructed. The Apaffi mine was at that time a tourist attraction for visitors to the baths, it was fully lighted and included an upper gallery in which often a single gorn player played.
