Historical and Urban Context

The site is located directly in the city center of Frankfurt, at the intersection of the two large parks, Wallanlagen and Untermainkai, and currently houses a Theater and an Opera. The original building, erected in 1902 in the Jugendstil style, has suffered from bombings, fires and demolitions, so that only 10% of the original structure remains to this day, consisting of the side facades of the opera's audience halls. These are covered and hidden by various outbuildings, which suffer from structural problems, infiltration, thermal insulation and lack of space.
