The European Center for Contemporary Art aims to be an innovative institutional model, distinct both in size and in its approach. It is addressed not only to the inhabitants of Cluj-Napoca or Transylvania, but also to the public from all over Romania, and also aims to attract a wider European audience.

Unlike municipal, county or national museums and art centers, the Center adopts a transnational and collaborative approach, integrating itself into a European reference network. It will function as an active platform for research, production and promotion of contemporary art. It is not conceived to be just an exhibition or art storage space, like a museum, nor a repertory institution, like a theater. Instead,
