Why students need not only the university, but also the Biennale

Architectural education is a long-term process (6 years, plus preparation for admission and internship after completion of the bachelor and integrated master). It takes place in a rigorously organized framework, combining formal and non-formal education. The formal component is associated with the learning of curricular content, while the non-formal component is based on design activities and is structured through workshops that allow a constant dialog between student and teacher. This framework has several essential functions: it organizes information, builds intellectual discipline and trains the ability to work with complex topics, to cope with concrete and difficult work situations, in other words, the creation of professional competences. At the University of Architecture and Urbanism "Ion Mincu" (UAUIM) the design component has a major importance, constituting an element of academic identity. "School" projects are evaluated by committees, where students defend their projects.
